When my partner and I signed a two-year lease to move into our second New York City apartment together in 2021, we agreed that the next place we lived in would be ours. New York City is where I grew up, and I am not ready to give up my status as a "passenger princess" — yes, I'm 31 and don't have a driver's license. "There are four things that go into getting a mortgage: your credit, your income, your assets, and the property," Forbes says. The application process for a program like the New York City HomeFirst Down Payment Assistance Program or the NYS AHC grant can take several months. Read previewIn January 2025, Donald Trump may be sworn into office as the 47th President of the United States. Another Trump term, on the other hand, would likely entail a radical reversal from not just the previous four years, but even from Trump's first term in office. While not exhaustive, here's just some of what to expect in a second Trump administration. Miller told The New York Times that a second Trump administration would build "vast holding facilities that would function as staging centers" on "open land in Texas near the border." According to Bloomberg, Trump wants to extend those cuts in a second term.

On Monday, former President Donald J. Trump’s social media company reported taking in $770,000 in advertising revenue in the first three months of the year, largely from its Truth Social platform, as it continued to incur hefty losses. The company, Trump Media & Technology Group, completed a long-awaited merger in March with Digital World Acquisition Corporation, a cash-rich shell company that served as a vehicle for taking Trump Media public. After the merger, Trump Media said it had about $274 million in cash and cash equivalents on its balance sheet, which would enable the company to “fund operations for the foreseeable future.”The public debut of Trump Media has been a boon to Mr. Trump, who owns a nearly 65 percent stake, worth about $6 billion. In a regulatory filing, the company said that it took in $770,000 in the past quarter, compared with $1.1 million in revenue in the year-ago quarter. The company said that much of the revenue “decrease was attributable to a change in the revenue share with one of our advertising partners.”

Wang Wentao, China's commerce minister, attends a news conference on the sidelines of the National People's Congress in Beijing, China, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. China's Ministry of Commerce announced sanctions against Boeing and two other defense companies Monday for arms sales to Taiwan, on the day of Taiwan's presidential inauguration. The move is the latest in a series of sanctions Beijing has announced in recent years against defense companies for weapons sales to Taiwan, a self-ruled island that China considers as part of its own territory. Lai Ching-te, Taiwan's new president, has vowed to strengthen Taiwan's security through imports of advanced fighters and other technology and strengthening its domestic defense industry. In April, China froze assets of General Atomics Aeronautical Systems and General Dynamics Land Systems held within China.

She said AI is reducing what she called "no joy" work. Some of the ways the bank thinks AI can come in handy are big and sweeping, while others are small by comparison. Broadly speaking, AI was a hot topic for other bank leaders at investor day, too. "You can't envision one app, one database, or one job where it's not going to help aid or abet."

Wall Street has great expectations for Nvidia 's earnings on Wednesday, according to Evercore ISI. Yet, how the artificial intelligence darling's stock will react is less clear — and it is likely to have big implications for the entire stock market, the firm said. The share price reaction will likely cause a ripple effect, he said. Over the past year, Nvidia's stock has had an "almost unimaginably close" day-to-day correlation to the S & P 500 of 0.95, he pointed out. which helped catalyze 2023's S & P 500 Fall Fall … the one certain thing is that NVDA's share price reaction, while difficult to gauge, will have consequences for the S & P 500 as a whole," Emanuel said.

The stock has another 20% rise left in it before the bubble deflates, Capital Economics predicted. That's because stocks tend to inflate rapidly right before the end of a bubble, the firm said. AdvertisementInvestors on the lookout for signs of a bubble should expect the stock market to be pumped up by another 20% before correcting, Capital Economics researchers said. According to John Higgins, Capital Economics' chief market economist, stocks look like they're in a late-stage bubble, meaning equities are in for a steep rally before the bubble eventually bursts. I think that it's a simple one really that involves a bubble inflating in the stock market," he said, pointing to the excitement for big tech.

Don't overlook the the financial sector as the stock market trends higher, according to Oakmark Funds portfolio manager and noted value investor BIll Nygren. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 40,000 for the first time on Friday, while both the Nasdaq Composite and S & P 500 entered Monday after four-week-long rallies. Despite the financial sector outperforming the broader market, banking and consumer finance stocks are cheaper compared to all S & P 500 companies, according to Nygren. The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) , which tracks the S & P 500 financials index, has returned 12.6% in 2024, including reinvested dividends, while the S & P 500 has returned less than 11.8%. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, at the U.K. Jamie Dimon's days as CEO of JPMorgan Chase are numbered — though its unclear by how much. In a response to a question Monday about the bank's succession planning, Dimon indicated that his expected tenure is less than five more years. That's a key change from Dimon's previous responses to succession questions, in which his standard answer had been that retirement was perpetually five years away. Even when he steps down as CEO, however, it's likely he will stay on as the bank's chairman, JPMorgan has said.

As Ukraine struggles to hold back Russian advances, the country’s officials say they are once again facing the formidable challenge of keeping electricity flowing as Moscow’s forces increasingly strike power plants. To conserve energy, the government has ordered nationwide rolling blackouts for Monday night, broadening the smaller regional ones that have become the norm in recent weeks. “This is another frontline in the war,” said Maxim Timchenko, the head of DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private electricity company, on social media last week. He said the company’s workers were engaged in a “race against time” to restore power to consumers. The nationwide blackout, scheduled from 6 p.m. to midnight, will affect the entire country for the first time this year, but it is unclear if it will continue past Monday.

In 2024, Gen Z workers are expected to outnumber baby boomers in the American labor force for the first time. Americans traveling this summer have broadly seen prices fall for airline fares, a welcome trend after last year's sticker shock. But airfare remains more expensive in 2024 for some regions and destinations, largely for trips abroad, data shows. Flights to Canada, South America, and the Middle East and Africa regions are also up 6%, 2% and 1%, respectively, from summer 2023, Hopper found. High prices to certain Asian cities impact many American tourists since the continent is their second-most frequented international travel destination, Hopper said. Average fares to Europe, the most popular trip abroad for Americans, are down 8% in summer 2024 versus a year ago, when they were at record highs.

U.K. stocks are finally turning a corner after years of underperformance, according to one chief investment officer, who stressed that valuations are looking "very cheap." The U.K. FTSE 100 is up around 11% over the last three months, while the broader FTSE 250 index is more than 9% higher. In comparison, the U.S.' S&P 500 is trading around 6% higher over the same period. He gave the example of oil giant Shell trading at a significantly lower price-to-earnings multiple than its U.S. rivals. A low P/E multiple — the ratio of a company's share price to its earnings per share — can indicate that a stock is undervalued.
